Global Energy Company Success Story

Syniti delivers complex SAP S/4HANA™ transformation program with 99.99% validated data quality.

Challenge

A major supplier of gas and related products, with a team of over 50,000 employees, sought to centralize its ERP onto SAP S/4HANA to streamline costs and optimize operations. The company had to move seven of its key business units over to SAP S/4HANA, when each had previously operated in its own siloed environment. These business units included human capital management, sales and distribution, procurement, finance, quality management, health/ safety environment, and the particularly challenging enterprise asset management.

Solution

Syniti deployed Advanced Data Migration, On-Premise in 2019, with the ultimate goal of producing validated, high-quality, and trusted data, aligned to the load templates for SAP S/4HANA. Accenture loaded the templates for us. Because the source data included a wide mix of legacy SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite/ Maximo, and others, we needed to de-duplicate, cleanse, design, and map 80+ objects before we could load them. Our biggest migration challenge was the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) business function, home to nearly 70% of the organization’s data. This included restructuring nearly 2 million assets for the target SAP S/4HANA™ system.

Outcome

Within a massively complex source system landscape, Syniti orchestrated the data transformation and met the client’s deadline. The project was completed in only 3 years–from directive to go-live.

Syniti was able to automate 40% to 50% of the client’s EAM restructuring process, which saved 8 months of manual effort for 3 business users. This success was subsequently replicated in 6 other business units. The client achieved its go-live on-time on June 2021, enjoying a 99.99% accuracy rate on final data loads. We attribute this project’s success to three factors:

  • Starting early – there can be no shortcuts in data migration.
  • Employing the Advanced Data Migration (ADM) platform to act upon data issues – enabled the business to easily review/ be alerted to data issues, and then cleanse/ remediate.
  • True business/ partner/ platform collaboration – Both the organization’s project team and Syniti’s consultant team intimately understood how to unleash the power of the ADM platform– essential to keep the project moving ahead.
